Driving requires a person to be highly alert and attentive. Many times a driver is tired, and eventually because of this they lose their ability to be alert. For this simple reason drowsy driving puts a drivers at greater risks and accidents. Studies indicate that people who drive while they are drowsy are 5 times more likely to cause an accident as compared to well-rested drivers. Sounds interesting right?
If you’re thinking that’s its a good idea and you can still drive if you’re drowsy think twice. Sadly, more than a 1/4 of Americans have done just that. Around 50-60% of drivers said they have driven while feeling drowsy, and an astonishing 30% of drivers have admitted to have falling asleep at the wheel. This 30% which we assume have admitted to have actually slept, it’s likely that even more drivers might have fallen asleep at the wheel, but no one wants to actually admit that they’ve committed such a grave error.
Do you know that it’s possible to fall into a 3 or 4 second microsleep without a person even realizing it. As people think they can easily judge the precise time they are too tired and don’t realize that drowsy driving is a serious danger. This is where a person maye even try to convince themselves that they’ll be okay and able to fight the drowsiness for just long enough to reach their destination. This is what increases their chances of having an accident. Even worse drivers who drive while being intoxicated are 5 times more likely to cause an accident than sober drivers. In simple words, drowsy drivers are equally dangerous as drunk drivers.
The driver who is drowsy there is most likely a chance that they may collide into others with their vehicles, and eventually are entitled to financial compensation for injuries as a result from the accident. While it’s unfortunate that a drowsy driver may only learn not to drive while tired after causing an accident, proper traffic-related education needs to be given by California DMV Traffic School, as this is important for drivers to know the proper rules and regulations which can help in improving their driving skills.
Drowsy driving is not illegal but is it safe? That’s the important question, if a person is taking quality sleep and eating foods filled with energy, they can really keep you alert. Even if someone is tired, they can still drive but it only increases their risk of potential accidents, this is where they shouldn’t be allowed to take to the road, as they’re really in no condition to be driving. If they drive in an unsafe manner they may be penalized or charged with offenses such as reckless driving as well!
